as promised #2

pardon the digression.

alright - a continuation of the people i have met in new york city...

1. aunty janice: the very kind lady who has (unfortunately) agreed to house me while i am here in nyc. her apartment being beautiful and conveniently located... stocked with food. really way more than i can ask for! :) havent been able to see her much though considerin the fact that she has her stuff on and i have mine. nonetheless, its been a very pleasant experience! :) and she brought me to this posh restaurant. david burke @ donatello/a or something like that. great food but exorbitant prices.

2. tricia & nigel: aunty j's kids! who are here to visit her. tricia has just graduated from the uni of sidney and therefore, is taking a break b4 launchin into the workforce. i finally found someone who shares my 'feet' woes. cos she's a 9.5! :) heard a good deal of funny and comical excerpts of her highly interesting life. the same cant be said about her bro, nigel who is camera shy. but a very nice boy. he actually WRAPS gifts. and does them pretty well! :) cool eh! :)

3. lindy & sarah! can you believe that i actually bumped into them in century 21. yes, my dear rj pals... then again, i met my UVa classmate in a jap restaurant too. peter peter! and best of all, Jules (another UVa friend) in the BATHROOM of the St James theatre during the broadway musical, The Producers (my 2nd one!). Cool or cool?

4. Steven: my dear PAFN bro who lives in Brooklyn. met him at the central station (lovely architecture to be appreciated once i upload my pics). who is now working and therefore, havent seen much of me!

5. salespeople: who havent been the nicest bunch. in general lah. reminds me of HK the last time i visited. just that these are WORSE. aiyoh... service is rather lacking in here. and they can be rather rude. which actually brings out the worst in people. the very nice and accomodating yours truly has actually aggressively insisted on stuff just because I couldnt stand the (non)service. or give them extra work. which is reasonable. i am a customer after all. then again, sometimes i still think its because i am chinese and not dressed like some tai tai. it is VERY materialistic. plastic.

6. random public. frankly, it hasnt been as BAD as people make them out to be. i have been asking for directions and i do get replies. ALTHOUGH they do not smile etc. but at least they respond. haha.

the city hardens people in my opinion. and i do believe that many would share the same thought. at the same time, i do feel that the CITY has lofty wealth to offer. and people TRY very hard to achieve that american dream. this is the american dream. you can see it written on every road, lamp post, store, EVERYTHING! the city attracts most. which is natural.

you crave what you do not have. people crave new york city simply because it HAS everything we lack. and then we hate it. simply because we cannot have what we crave. vicious circle. but i fell for the city anyway. LOVE IT!
