labor of love

we often hear about the old adage (or whatever literary term you call it) that items made with love are sweeter, nicer, warmer or simply better. for e.g., think of the favourite dish your grandma/grandpa/mom/dad cooks. restaurants are great for similar options but they never quite cut it because there's always an element of gooey love that goes into that... perfectly fried egg (think crisp edges). frying an egg isn't rocket science (except for me) but somehow, that PARTICULAR fried egg just seems so much tastier.

i had the great fortune of receiving a luscious, teal-turquoisey woolen scarf (carefully) made by my dear friend, sheena. it looks store-bought because she is THAT good at crocheting. but it feels NOTHING like a store-bought scarf. my perception of how warm it kept me was probably biased beyond measure because of the nature of its "coming to be". you could be right in pointing out that pure wool tends to be a great heat insulator but it's a special kind of warmth that i felt.

so, i figured that the best things in life are those that are crafted by your loved ones. they could be immaterial; memories are a great example. or they could be items of substance. either way, it's glorious to be gifted a labor of love.

such as that from God.
