peribahasa
i used to be pretty good at remembering peribahasas because we were required to throw some into our standard 6 upsr bahasa malaysia compositions to show our strong grasp of the language. (upsr is somewhat equivalent to the psle in singapore and whatever 6th grade national exams elsewhere.)
but now, i kowtow to my new peribahasa sifu ms. (dr. to be) sheela cheong for crafting the best peribahasa ever.
we were talking about our lack of corporate savvyness. actually, i was talking about MY lack of competence at a desk-bound job. and how sheena would totally ace my assignment. during this drama-mama despairing moment, sheela assured me that "we were too smart to be fitting in". and ended her kind words with the peribahasa:
kaki dalam tahi, mesti lihat bintang-bintang di langit.
(foot/feet in poop, must look at the stars in the sky.)
'nuff said!

I won't deny that I'm a genius, but I can't take all the credit for today's pearl of wisdom.
"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde
so the correct peribahasa should be: "kita semorang dalam longkang, tapi ada yang tengok bintang-bintang."
