ground peanut cookies

over the last few days, i have been enjoying ground peanut cookies (yes, these ones exactly) which are very atypical snacks for the 22-year-old. i haven't had them in years but thanks to sheena (and gopal), i am reminded of the sweet crunchiness of my childhood love. at some point, i became the peanut cookie snob. i could tell when some cookies weren't as fresh as i'd like them to be because moisture had crept into the wrapping layers (they were packed in thin rice paper back then) and so they became too hard and sticky. you could tell by the deeper caramel like tint that they weren't fresh. and if they stuck to the wrapper, i knew right away. so i didn't open those.

but when i had some really good ones, they were heavenly. the coat was just crunchy, neither hard nor soft. and the insides were loose peanut flakes. the sugar should never be seen nor tasted as a separate entity. it was a perfect fusion of ground sugar and peanuts. that was the beauty of this simple snack. and perhaps, a reflection of a simple childhood.

oh peanut cookies, how i missed thee.

Those cookies are gorgeous! I love also. But somehow I still prefer my peanutty indulgences to be more salty than sweet. Like Skippy peanut butter, I used to adore that as a child, but now graduated to Adams already.
I love love love peanut butter!!! Feel v inspired to make peanut butter sanwic now.
On a related note, I remember being so amused when I found out that sandwich in Malay is sanwic. Hahah!
