le football americain

i have never felt so 'patriotic' about soccer( ie the real football) ever in my life. i mean, i only watched it for a certain beckham in the old days. ah well.but i have never realised how invigorating soccer was! my first american football game - UVa played against western michigan incidentally the first game of the season and i was bored to tears. mainly because i didnt know what was going on. but still. so i cheered whenever the people around me cheered. however, i did learn some stuff bout college football.
1. there were cheerleaders, think bring it on.
2. there was a very flamboyant school band. they practise at the field across my dorm which can get quite crazy after some time!
3. there were 2 groups of people - people who were serious about the game, and those who were serious about drinking at the the 'tailgate' parties. tailgating is the term used for the 'gathering' (together with food and alcohol) before and after the game. :)
4. and the very interesting UVa tradition
UVa tradition
well, UVa was women-less until i think the 1950s... so the football games were highly popular social events during which the male students invited members of the opp sex! :) naturally, the guys wanted to impress the girls - they wore shirts and slacks, and ties! similarly, the girls wanted the same effect so dressed nicely - they wore sundresses and pearls!
dressed nicely
despite the insane heat during summer, we still see nicely dressed UVa students at football games. its kinda cute actually.
now you must be wondering if i wore a sundress for the event. :)
no i didnt. ha. but i plan to one day, just for fun.
i wore orange which is increasingly popular because some big coach of the football team managed some rally bout how the school ought to display school spirit by wearing our school's official colours! :) orange and blue. yah! so you see a sea of orange! :)
anyway, thats my lil educational note bout american football in college! :)
love
